“World Malayalee Council Adopts AKORE Village”

People of Akore Village and others were filled with joy when World
Malayalee Council’s Nigeria Province an Indian International NGO
formally adopted the village for its humanitarian services on 29th
January 2006.
World
Malayalee Council (WMC), an Indian non-profit making organization
was formed and registered with a mission of creating a network of
Malayalees around the Globe and work together for a better
society. The word “Malayalee: means the people who speak Malayalam
language and hail from a tiny state called Kerala in India, which
is known as “GODS OWN COUNTRY”. WMC is engaged in humanitarian
service around the world that includes Village adoption, Mobile
Clinic and other philanthropic services.
WMC
is spread over all the continents with 6 Regions as Africa,
America, Australia & Far East, Europe, India and Middle East. The
young Nigeria province under Africa region started its
Humanitarian service in November 2005 with the mission to adopt
villages. After the primary survey it has decided to embark on its
pilot project of Village Adoption in Akore Village in Ado-Odo/Ota
Local Government area of Ogun State. The Village has a population
of more than 1,000 people who would be the direct beneficiaries
from this project.
Village Adoption plan of WMC provides assistance in Primary
health, Primary education and Self-sustainable projects based on
agriculture for the people of selected villages.
The
Chairman of WMC Nigeria Province Dr. Vincent Palathingal welcomed
the invited guests and the people of Akore Village and assured
them with basic Medical Health Care and other services.
During his welcome address, the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Govt Chairman
Honorable Dr Gboyega Salami assured WMC of all the help required
from the Local Govt and requested WMC to spread this humanitarian
service to other villages also. The officials of Local Govt
council and a number of other local leaders came up and thanked
WMC for choosing their Village.
The
entire gathering greeted the Indian High Commissioner in return
with loud applause when His Excellency greeted them with “Ekkaro”
and “Bavoni”. While inaugurating the adoption of the village
Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria His Excellency H.S.S
Viswanathan, praised WMC for what they are doing in Nigeria and
also the Indo-Nigeria Relationship.
The
Borehole drilled by WMC in the village to provide drinking water
for the villagers was commissioned by Oba of Igbesa His Royal
Highness Oba (Dr) Samuel Olushola Banuso JP while the medical camp
was inaugurated by the Chairman Ado-Odo/Ota Local Govt. The Oba of
Igbesa was impressed by the activities of WMC and expressed that
His Royal Highness is proud of its association with WMC and
promised its continued best co-operation.
Many
traditional rulers, Officials from the Local Govt Council Mr.
Jacob John Poovathoor, the President of Africa Region of World
Malayalee Council from Uganda, Mr. Jacob Mathai (Nigeria) one of
the founder and Global Executive member of WMC, Mrs. Sicily Jacob
WMC Woman’s Forum Global President, many other WMC officials and
its members and the Community Leaders were in witness. It will go
down in the history of the village as one of the greatest events.
An enthusiastic crowd turned up to witness the occasion.
This
project has been envisaged for the years to come and it shall be
carried out in different phases. The first phase mainly
concentrates on Primary Health service, drinking water and Primary
education. The medical team lead by Dr. Vincent Palathingal, Dr.
Dhar, Dr. Neha Chowla and Dr. Ajibola treated many patients till
evening and supplemented with health tonics and other health
substitutes to others. The education sector received the first lot
of scholastic materials while WMC has donated its first batch of
baby food to the little ones.
WMC
expressed their happiness and gratitude to the Indian High
Commissioner to Nigeria for all his encouragement and support.
In
the Facilitation speech Mrs. Sicily Jacob mentioned about the warm
welcome and the co-operation received from the people of Akore
Village from the day one. She also addressed the problems that are
currently having with the pregnant ladies and assured that WMC
will do the best to reduce the intensity of the sufferings.
In
his welcome speech, the Chairman of WMC Nigeria Province Dr.
Vincent Palathingal outlined the activities of WMC and its pilot
project at Akore Village. He also expressed the desire that WMC
has adopted one village named Akore to start the pilot project
with but it will expand it to many other villages in the future.
In
his Vote of Thanks, the President of WMC Nigeria Province Mr.
Mathews P V has stressed that the success and failure of the
project depends on the co-operation of the villagers. He warned
them against the misuse or abuses of the facilities and services
extended to them. He extended his heartfelt gratitude to the
Sponsors and well-wishers of WMC who supported this noble
cause. He also quoted that Kerala is the state in India who
achieved 100% literacy and WMC will try its level best to make
this Akore Village also to a model village with 100% literacy.
The
Africa Region President for WMC, Mr. Jacob John Poovathoor has
witnessed the occasion and praised the committee members for their
dedication and said that it made him proud to have such a
marvelous group of humanitarians with him from Nigeria. He said,
he is convinced that our brethrens in Nigeria are proved to be the
example and the people who applies WMC’s five-way test, (to become
a member) in life.

In
the response and thanks speech by Chief Ayo Moradeyo came up with
an appealing speech. In an emotional note he mentioned that people
of Nigeria is now experiencing some thing different than they
thought of Indians who lives in Nigeria for decades. He also
thanked the WMC in particular for initiating this pilot project
that is the first of its kind ever initiated by Indian Community.
In
the course of time, WMC shall extend its activities and assistance
not only in other Districts of Nigeria but also to other African
countries, the WMC officials said.
