World Malayalee Council
was formed on July 3, 1995 in New Jersey on the last day of the
first World Malayalee Convention.
:: WMC was formed to network Malayalees around the world
:: The mission of WMC is to create a global Malayalee community able to
communicate and cooperate each other and continue the connection
through generations thus maintaining the Malayalee identity for years to come.
:: WMC is a movement of Malayalees propagating change in the attitude of
a Malayalee to make them better human beings and demand the members to undergo
the following five way tests
1. Are you willing to help others
2. Are you concerned about the poor and the needy
3. Are you straight forward and trustworthy
4. Are you fair and impartial
5. Will you build friendship and good will
:: WMC has a three tier organizational structure, a global
council , six
regional councils, America , Europe , Africa , Middle
east , India and Far
East & Australia and local units called Provincial Councils.
Membership in WMC is in the provincial councils. Each province serves as the
body serving the local Malayalee community.
:: WMC also has International Forums. The Youth and Women's forums
are to be formed in all provinces, which also has a three tier structure,
:: WMC has formed a chamber of commerce and have registered with the government
of India in the name Indian
Worldwide Chamber of Commerce . This body will network Malayalee business
people and entrepreneurs around the world. It will help Malayalee businesses
to enhance their horizon and expand their business activities through mutual
cooperation.
:: WMC has a publication called World
Malayalee Journal , which is now published by the global council quarterly.
:: WMC operates a web site - www.worldmalayalee.org, which provides information
about WMC, its organization, bylaws, names of officers, news about the activities
and other information.
:: WMC has initiated a project called Nava Kerala to help in the
socioeconomic development of the people of Kerala. Under this project
a village adoption
program is initiated with the intention of adopting
one village in each of the fourteen districts in Kerala. Currently
there are eight villages under this program. WMC also has initiated
several employment projects to empower women.
:: WMC has recently started a project called Employability
Enhancement Program to train unemployed people to help to get jobs. This
program will be initiated in all districts. WMC New Jersey province supports
this project.
Initiative of “Hridaya Ragam 2006 – Paediatric Heart Surgery” was
taken with a noble vision of serving the people of the economically
poor strata of the populous. The project was well supported and till
date 58 surgeries has been completed with 100% results in Madras
Medical Mission. Most of the parents / guardian of these children
are casual labour, for whom winning daily bread for their family is
a challenge. “Hridaya Ragam -2006” was a ray of light to all these
parents and they were extremely delighted and thank full for this
gesture of WMC.
WMC created a world record by obtaining the consent certificates for
eye donation from 3,19,952 people,The mega eye donation campaign
took place in a remote village called Mannathoor near Muvattupuzha
in Ernakulam District.This project was a major success with huge
participation and cooperation of the local crowd. To make this
social event more glorious we had with us Padmabhooshan
Dr.K.J.Yesudas , Padmashree Bharat Mohanlal and honorable Minister
T.M.Jacob. The campaign was successfully completed under the able
leadership of Mr.A.V.Anoop as Chairman and Mr. Nithya Sathya as
Chief Convener.
