WMC Chennai Province in association with Mathrubhumi Malayalam Daily celebrated Onam on 26th August 2007 at Madras University Centenary Hall, Chennai. The event was inaugurated by Smt.Kanimozhi, daughter of Shri.Karunanidhi, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, a Noted Poet and a Member of Parliament (MP) & and the event also witnessed the presence Shri.M.A.Baby, Minister of Education, Government of Kerala. Shri.V.C.Praveen, General Secretary of WMC Chennai Province welcomed the gathering which was well attended. Smt.Kanimozhi opined about the depleting status of Tamil Language from Education Institution in Kerala like Victoria College, Palghat which require immediate action from Government of Kerala. Shri.M.A.Baby acknowledged and also opined about the status of Malayalam Language in Education Institutes of Tamil Nadu which was taken in a positive note by the Smt.Kanimozhi for due consideration from Government of Tamil Nadu which is quite encouraging.

Shri.A.V.Anoop, Global General Secretary WMC, Shri.Gokulam Gopalan, Chairman of WMC India Region, Shri.Nanda Govind, President of WMC India Region, Shri.Princesson Jose, Chairman WMC Chennai province, Shri.Achuthan Nair, Treasurer of WMC Chennai Province and members of WMC Chennai Province attended the event with family members to make the event memorable.

Singari Melam, Thiruvathira, Dance & Musical Programme by leading playback singers enthralled the well attended audience. Prize was distributed for WMC Mathrubhumi Pookalam Contest which was held in connection with Onam celebration and there was also Grand Onam Sadhya for 1000 people in the afternoon.
