Report:

On the 2 nd of May at 9:30 AM the Panchayat member Georgekutty inaugurated the personality development training camp. The Kollad YMCA President K. C. George was the Chief Guest. Mr. Georgekutty requested the people to make this camp, which was the first of its kind in the 50 year history of Kollad YMCA, a great success. The program started at 10 AM. The classes on the first day were on Ice-breaking, Leadership and Personality. Mr. Roby and Mr. Velayudhan took these classes. The classes really interested the students.

On the 3 rd classes started at 9:30 in the morning and the students were taught discipline. All students were in the class by this time. This really surprised the YMCA and WMC Women’s Forum members. The topics discussed were communication and goal- setting and Mr. Tom Zachariah led the discussion. Following this the students were asked to speak about their goal in life. In the afternoon Mr. Velayudhan taught them to make their own charts. That evening there were various cultural programs conducted by the students and these programs strengthened their team spirit.

The classes started at 9:30AM on the 4 th and Mr. James Xavier discussed study skills. It was this class that held the greatest interest for the students. In the afternoon Mr. Shijo Zachariah took class on “How to win” and Mr. Velayudhan took class on how to prepare a Personal Time Table. The charts prepared by the students were very good. The following questions were given to prepare the chart: Name, Name of school, Your Hobby, Your Goal, Your role model and your symbol. The students had to answer these questions and draw corresponding pictures. It was Anil. C. Abraham who won the prize. The course came to an end at 3:30 PM. The parents of the students came for the closing ceremony, which was presided over by the Kollad YMCA President K.C.George. The certificates for the students were sponsored and distributed. Mr. C.A. Jacob, brother of Mr. Andrew Pappachan gave the children a very good message. Mr. C.A. Thampy greeted the people. Mr. Shijo Zachariah gave a speech on how parents should educate children. The parents had a high opinion about this speech. The vote of thanks was by the WMC Women’s Forum President Lisi Mani. The 3 day personality development training camp came to an end.

The training program conducted by the WMC and YMCA created a very good impression among the people of Kollad. Although it is 50 years since YMCA started functioning in Kollad it is the first time that a children’s program has been conducted. It was the joint effort of the YMCA members and the WMC Women’s Forum members that made this program such a great success. The children were of the opinion that such programs should be conducted at least for 5 days. The children were really thrilled by the role play, skit, games, music and dance classes and various cultural programs. The quiz programs helped to increase their knowledge. Everyone was visibly impressed by the promptness with which the children answered the questions asked at the meeting. WMC is sure that they can be instrumental in helping children  to set their goals in life and guide them in their struggle to achieve these goals.
