World Malyalee Council Youth Forum:
Rhythm of Kerala Introduction and Presentation
The celebrations started with the prayer song of Reena and
Roopa Kannampillil. Julie Kasamkattil , President of WMYF
welcomed the audience and spoke briefly about WMYF as a
youth organization of Malyalees with cultural, social and
sports interests. There are about 150 youths from different
parts of Switzerland under 3 divisions : Zurich, Basel and
Tessin.
WMC president, George Nambuseril elaborated on the WMC
structure that it is a global network of Malayalees, to
stand for their social, cultural and political needs. WMC
was registered in Switzerland in 1995, and since then it
has become the forefront association of Malayalees with its
varied activities in the different sections of the
Malayalee community. The Youth Forum was started as one of
the organs for WMC in 2002 and since then it has been
successful in bringing the second generation youth under
this umbrella. The youth from different locations like
Zurich, Basel, Tessin, and Bern etc find it also as a
common platform to express themselves of their ideas and
share their thoughts and knowledge on topics of common
interest. The Youth festivals of the past years show their
pride of the Indian feeling and this year's Youth festival
is concentrated on the theme 'Rhythm of Kerala' to
celebrate the golden jubilee of Kerala state' s birth. (more)
